3 Things We Wish We Knew at 18 Career Wise

IPSUNI Admin fi-rr-calendar16 Jul 2020 comments0 reading1 min read

IPS Unit of Education, being a short courses institute in Lahore has the responsibility to counsel students for their career decisions in life. When we turn 18, everything looks ambitious and easy, and with a “go, get it” attitude, we believe we can achieve our goals.

If there is anything certain about life, it is the uncertainty of it. No matter, what plans we make, things always don’t go with the plan, and we end up being demotivated.

This article will be a great guide for youngsters, and even aspiring entrepreneurs can take notes for setting up a proper plan of action.

Here are the three things we wish we knew at 18 career-wise.

Learning Never Stops

Many of us don’t go to university and colleges to study and learn, but for the sake of it.  Our educational organizations are not up to the mark, but a constant sense of non-seriousness can ruin many opportunities in the future.

We are not saying to be a book warm or cram, but at least get an idea of what you like. After we graduate, we think this is enough, and we can’t proceed further unless we want to specialize in any particular field. This is not the case. Learning never stops nor one should stop it. It’s not important to always go to colleges, but getting admission to the institute of short courses can help. Many modern language institutes offer several diverse courses such as short courses about information technology, interior designing, photography, digital marketing, search engine optimization, and more. You can be a part of them and learn for a better career.

The World is a Diverse Big Place

If you don’t get a pass in one thing, it is not the end of the world. We have seen many people who are disheartened for a long time when they didn’t get admission to their favorite universities. But, when they graduate from somewhere else, the disappointment they felt for so long is long forgotten.

It can also be explained when you think you can do well in some line of the field, but you don’t. It doesn’t mean that you’re not good enough for anything.

We all are passionate about something. We just have to search for it. Not going for “popular career options” is a brave move, but if you got the will to do, you can find a group of people to appreciate it. An example is a few years back, SEO wasn’t considered a suitable job prospect. But, now you see hundreds of job applications for it. Pursuing art is still considered a taboo in our region, but hard-working artists get their due recognition. Therefore explore and see what suits your intellect the best.

A Degree Doesn't Guarantee Job

At 18, we think a job will be waiting for us, right after our degree. In real life, it requires much more than that. The corporate world asks for many requirements, and with a constant surge of the unemployment rate, it is hard for some of us to land a job.

Often degrees don’t necessarily mean a bright future. The practical world is different from the bookish world, and it requires technical knowledge, which you can get via modern language institutes in Lahore. If you want to work as a call center agent, you should enroll in an English language course. If you want to start up a business online, you should learn SEO via digital marketing short course.

So, all the turning or turned eighteen youngsters, if you set your goals realistically, no one can hinder your growth.

We wish you the best of luck.
